Round 2 of the Div 6B Minor County League took place in Stack Park, Ballybunion on Saturday last (8th March). The teams on show were the homeside Beale and the combination side of Asdee/Bally. This was, as the cliché goes, a harrowing game of two halves. This was aided by the stiff breeze that was blowing down the field towards the dressing rooms side of the pitch. It was the combination side that had this wind on their side in the opening half, and utilised it as much as possible by wracking up a total score of 1-9. Scores came from the boots’ of Kieran O’Connor, Owen (Bomber) Tydings, Darragh Keane and Padraig O’Neill. The homeside however battled hard against the breeze, working the ball short until within scoring range and managed to have a total 4 points at the interval. Upon resumption of the second half it soon became clear that this game was far from over as players such as Daniel Ellis and Brian Wall, aided with the strong breeze, scored a combined total of 1-8 between them. The homeside brought the game to within a point with roughly 10 minutes to go. A well worked goal between the two Keane brothers however gave Asdee/Bally a slight cushion that was desperately needed. Beale responded with a point, but Padraig O’Neill, who was very impressive on the day netted the ball once more for the visitors. Asdee/Bally finished stronger and came out the winners on a scoreline of 3-10 to 1-11, of what was a very entertaining fast flowing game of football. Team and Scorers: 1. Ryan Henry 2. Jack Keane 4.
