COUNTY UNDER 16 LEAGUE   Asdee/Bally 5-13   Fossa 4-6.

The game was played in Ballylongford on Wednesday last (24th).The home side got off to the better start and dominated possession for the first 10-15 minutes. Within this period they scored 4 points without reply. This purple patch was slightly tainted however, when some sloppy defending resulted in the visitors netting the ball in the 12th minute. Asdee/Bally responded well however as it wasn’t long before the Fossa Goalkeeper Alex Rennie was beaten by the boot of Kieran O’Connor. Asdee/Bally drove on from here and put over some more well-worked scores. Fossa responded with 3 well-taken points which brought the first half to a close with the scoreline reading Asdee/Bally 2 8 Fossa 1 3. The beginning of the second half was an almost carbon copy of the first. Once again, the first 10 minutes were dominated by the home side which saw some very well worked scores coming from Darragh Keane, Kieran O’Connor and Michael Holly. Yet, as they had done in the opening half, the visitors cancelled out some of these with a second goal, bringing the margin back to 6 points. This gap proved too wide for Fossa to bridge however. They struggled to win the high ball around the middle of the field which was being very well marshalled by Asdee/Bally’s Darragh Keane. Despite this however, Fossa battled to the very end. Referee, Thomas O’Sullivan awarded them a deserved penalty which beat Goalkeeper Cian Barrett and rattled the net. The visitors also netted the ball on a fourth occasion, which brought their total tally to 4 goals and 6 points. Asdee/Bally however, despite some lapses in concentration, were the dominant force throughout the entirety of this game. The home side found the opposition’s net 3 times throughout the second half with goals coming from Kieran Dowd, Seán Carmody and James O’Connor. These coupled with some fine kicking from Kieran O’Connor, put the game well beyond Fossa’s reach. The final score was Asdee/Bally 5 13 Fossa 4 6. This was the clubs final game as they have a bye in the remaining round so this victory should guarantee Asdee/Bally a spot in the semi-finals which will be played in the coming weeks.
