NOVICE CHAMPIONSHIP. Asdee 3-10 Moyvane 0-24. Con Brosnan Park, Moyvane was the venue for the clash of Moyvane and Asdee in a Preliminary Round of the County Novice Championship on Saturday evening last where the home side emerged victorious by a 6pt margin in a game that saw 36 scores in all, played in championship fervour with the game hanging in the balance up till the final whistle. Moyvane got off to a flying start and had 4pts on the board by the 7th minute with points coming from Shane Carmody, (2), Shane Stack and Martin Stack before Asdee opened their account after 10 minutes after a quick free kick was despatched over by Mike Breen.
Another Asdee point followed from Kieran Kelly to cut the deficit. Up to this stage it Moyvane were having plenty possession but once Asdee settled the game opened up to see some great passages of fast open football. The visitors got the tonic of a scrambled goal with Mike Breen directing to the net after 12 minutes.to level up the tie that was to be level on no fewer than 5 more occasions in this half. Shane Stack, Martin Stack and Kieran Kelly exchanged points as play went from end to end.
Mike Breen gave Asdee the lead with a neat point and from here to the end of the half it was nip and tuck. Again all the drama was reserved for the final minutes as Cyril Dineen got on the end of a high delivery and punched to the net and Eoin Tydings driving his penalty over the bar. Colin Enright closed the first half scoring with a point.
Martin Stack and Shane Stack were dominant for Moyvane as was Cyril Dineen and Kieran Kelly for Asdee and at the break it was Moyvane 0-13 Asdee 2-7. On resumption it was Moyvane who came prowling early and were unlucky with the ball coming off the post but cleared to safety on both occasions inside the opening minutes. Shane Carmody and Martin Stack added points with Eoin Tydings hitting the target for the visitors. At this stage Moyvane were now enjoying plenty possession and added 5 points without reply and leading 0-20 to 2-8 at the beginning of the final quarter.
Still Asdee battled away and Eoin Tydings got in for 1-1 to narrow the gap to just 2 points with 5 minutes remaining. However the home team finished the stronger and added points from, Martin Stack, Colin Enright. Overall a fantastic game of football and a credit to both teams for the manner they sportingly played the game. Moyvane now advance to play Beale for a place in the County Semi Final.
