CHAMPIONSHIP DRAW.  Its coming to that time of the year once again
when all North Kerry Gaels will be looking forward to the North Kerry
Senior Football Championship Draw which is probably the most talked
about District Board Championship in the County; I suppose the time of
the year creates extra interest as followers from all over the County
flock to see our games and especially the final. Last years final saw
Listowel Emmets pip Brosna after a replay that saw a couple of
thousand patrons attend and enjoy the glamour of what is the North
Kerry Senior Football Championship.

This year once again Asdee will be among the 14 Clubs entering the draw for the Bernard O Callaghan Memorial North Kerry Senior football Championship 2016 which will take place on this Friday 2nd of  September at 8pm sharp in McMunns Hotel
and Restaurant Ballybunion which is kindly sponsored by Greg and Una.
The prize for the winners at the end of the day will be the Eamon O
Donoghue Memorial Cup. So along with Asdee, Ballylongford,
Ballydonoghue, Beale, Brosna, Knocknagoshel, St. Senans, Finuge,
Ballyduff, Tarbert, Moyvane, Castleisland Desmonds, Listowel Emmets,
Duagh will all be entering the draw.

Since Asdee have taken part in the Senior Football Championship back in the late nineties they have faired out well against some of the so called bigger clubs and on a
few occasions have been unlucky not to have got the result. However in
1996 and 2015 were the only years that the club have gone beyond the
first Round defeating Ballydonoghue in 1997 and loosing to Listowel
Emmets in Round 2 while last year we put one over on our fellow
parishioners Ballylongford before going down to Brosna who were the
All Ireland Junior Club Champions.

Along with the senior draw the following competitions will also be drawn on the night; U21 and Minor Championships, Intermediate, Junior and Novice Cups. Asdee will as
already stated be in the hat for the Senior Championship while we will
be joined with Ballylongford in the Under 21 and Minor Football
Championship. Our club delegates. Mark O Hanlon and Patsy Coughlan
will be representing St. Marys along with all the other club
delegates, North Kerry Football Officers and President Jerry Brosnan,
Moyvane. A very interesting night ahead with everybody anxiously
awaiting who there opponents will be in the race for the coveted Eamon
O Donoghue Cup.

EAMON O DONOGHUE. Though it is now 33 years since his death; (March
7th 1983) the name of Eamon O Donoghue will always be remembered and
spoke about. No doubt he was one of the finest footballers that ever
graced any G A A field and his memory lives on because within a short
time after his death the Ballylongford and Castleisland Desmonds clubs
came together and presented a Cup to the North Kerry Football Board to
be known as the Eamon O Donoghue Memorial Cup and each year this cup
is presented to the captain of the club which wins the North Kerry
Senior Football Championship in which Eamon displayed his many talents
throughout the 60s and 70s.

His record of achievements speaks for itself  having represented Kerry at all grades of football;  2 All Ireland Senior Football medals, 5 National League Medals, 1 Railway
Cup, 3 County Senior Football Championship medals, 1 Munster Senior
Club, 3 All Ireland 7-a-side all with Shannon Rangers, Munster
Colleges with DeLa Salle, Waterford. I suppose his playing days with
his Club Ballylongford will also linger on forever; rarely if ever did
he miss playing for his Club and on one occasion for the final of a
local tournament himself and his brother, Paudie, R I P drove from
Cork after playing for Kerry Senior Footballers to help their club to
victory. At that particular time his club Ballylongford were probably
one of the top teams in North Kerry and beyond playing in 11 North
Kerry Senior Football Championships between 1965 to 1977 winning 5
titles, North Kerry Leagues,  County Intermediate Championships and
much more. Certainly the man from Kilcolman, Asdee was always the
brightest star.

UNDER 11s. Another round of the newly formed Under 11 North Kerry
league, Coiste Na nOg took place on Thursday evening last at O Rahilly
Park, Ballylongford where both Bally/Asdee and Brosna served up a most
entertaining and high scoring encounter that went down to the wire
before the visitors just edged out the home team. The teams were very
evenly matched and even though Bally/Asdee trailed at the interval by
2-3 to Brosnas 3-6 they really got stuck in for the second half and at
the sound of Tom O Sullivans final whistle the visitors just got there
on a scoreline of Brosna 5-13 Bally/Asdee 5-10. All the players gave
100%. with some outstanding scores registered by both sides. Certainly
the name of Patrick Mulvihill deserve special mention as he was the
scorer of 5-6 of his sides tally. The team consisted of: Jack Hannon,
Darragh Healy, Liam Walsh, Patrick Mulvihill, 5-6, Oisin Healy, 3pts,
Fionn Burns, Cathal Burns, Eamon O Connor, Lorcan Prendergast, 1pt.

UNDER 14s. Bally/Asdee travelled to Frank Sheehy Park, Listowel on
Monday evening last to take on Listowel Emmets  in Round 2 of the
North Kerry Under 14 League Division 2 “B” but the home side proved
much too strong on this occasion. However even though the combination
side went down heavly in the end they still stuck to the task that
confronted them and never gave up the chase which is a credit to the
players on duty. It was 5-10 to 2-1 at the interval to Listowel Emmets
and a further 1-7 by the combination side brought their total to 3-8
but at the sound of John Hennessys final whistle the Listowel  boys
were clear leaders with a staggering tally of 6-16.Top scorer for the
combination side was Liam Mulvihill with 3-1. Maybe Listowel Emmets
who are winning their games by a huge margin should be in a higher
Division; but whatever happens you  only have to play with what
confronts you. Still a semi-final place awaits for Bally/Asdee which
is a great achievement with the opposition unknown at the minute.

Bally/Asdee panel and scorers consisted of; Gerard Mulvihill, Michael
Tracey, Cathal Doran, 1pt, Michael Hannon, Brian Murphy, Patrick
Mulvihill, Josh Prendergast, 1pt, Liam Mulvihill, 3-1, Adam Finucane,
Ciaran Griffin, Paddy O Neill, Cillian Kennelly, Brendan Keane, 1pt,
Jack Hannon, Liam Connolly, Oran O Neill, Bobby McCarron, 2pts.

GOLDEN GOAL. Week 29 winner of the Golden Goal  was Timmy Kennelly,
Moyvane which is in conjunction with upcoming Fixtures in National
Football and Hurling Championship. (Televised games) Tickets are on
sale from club members at E2 each with E40 to be given out each week
to the winning number which corresponds with the first goal scored.
Tickets priced at E2 can be obtained from club members and local
