COUNTY LEAGUE

Asdee   1-8      Knocknagoshel  1-10

Played at Willie Walsh Park, Knock the home side powered by the Walsh brothers  Just got the better of a firedup up Asdee side who in fairness deserved to at least get a draw but poor shooting with at least 3 scoring opportunities from a scoring positions  in the final minutes cost them in the end.

The game itself was a rip roaring encounter with play swinging from end to end and even though the visitors held the lead only for a brief period in the early stages of the opening half there was very little to seperate two evenly matched sides.

Asdee were first off the mark with Paul O Carroll slotting over a couple of frees  inside 11 minutes. Both sides kicked a number of wides but this was due to some terrific defending on both sides especially by Kieran Kelly for Asdee and Darragh O Connell for the home side.

Edmond Walsh got his side off the mark in the 16th minute with a left legged point which was followed 1 minute later with wing back Conor Sheehan levelling up the tie. However and not for the first time this year Asdee lost concentration for a split second and in like a flash was Niall Barrett who had the simple task of finding the net.

This gave Knock a huge lift and points followed from Edmond Walsh, (3) and Shane O Connell to give their side a six point lead going into the final minute of the half. Then in injury time Asdee got the tonic of a rather fortuitous goal and with the right man in the right place full forward Cyril Dineen punched to the net.

Half time Knocknagoshel 1-6 Asdee 1-3. Asdee were quickly out of blocks on the changeover with Eoin Tydings cutting the gap to a single point after 3 minutes.

From here till the final whistle it was ding dong. Edmond Walsh kicked a sweet point from distance to increase Knocks lead to 2pts. Then at either  end both goalkeepers came to their sides rescue with stunning saves.  Edmond Walsh popped over another point and by the 16th minute it was a 3 point game.

The visitors hadn’t given up just yet as Paul O Carroll and Eoin Tydings cut the deficit to a point by the 17th minute and at this stage were enjoying plenty possession as Eoin Tydings and John Walsh exchanged points.

Then when it looked like Asdee might snatch something from the game John Walsh was on hand to swing over to ensure victory for his side deep into injury time.
