BEREAVEMENT. The death took place on Saturday last December 19th of another one of Asdees finest footballers; Johnny White of Clounamon and late of Asdee East. Johnny was without doubt one of the most stylish players of his time; playing at half back. Such was his style and football ability that if he so wished could have gone on to greater heights and even though he played with the Shannon Rangers during the 50s his only desire was to play for his native Asdee.
Johnny was on the victorious Asdee teams that included his late brother, Batty that created history by winning their first North Kerry Intermediate Title in 1950 against Listowel; defeat was their lot in 1955 against Moyvane but they were back in business again, and followed up one year later with their second title; this time defeating Tarbert at the Shannonside Village with Johnny starring at number 7 alongside his brother Mikie.Without doubt the White family have a great tradition of football and are always great supporters of the game.
Both himself and his great friend and former President of the Club; Tommy O Connor; R I P attended all games locally and afterwards discussed with their many friends in detail at the famous meeting place at the “top of the road”. On the arrival of his remains to St. Marys Church Monday evening last, December 21st there was a guard of honour by both past and present players and members of the local G. A. A. Club.On behalf of St. Marys Asdee G A A Club we would like to offer our deepest sympathy to his family and friends. Ar dheis de go raibh a hAinm.
