MINORS. Asdee/Bally 3-5 Ballydonoghue 3-11. The footballing season for our minor footballers of 2017 has come to a conclusion at O Rahilly Park, Ballylongford on Sunday last where old rivals Ballydonoghue came out on top by a 6 point margin to capture the North Kerry Minor Shield after a very exciting and competitive encounter. It was nip and tuck throughout the contest with the game hanging in the balance right up to the sound of Ballyduff, Referee, John Ross blew the final whistle. Ballydonoghue were quick out of traps with rapid points but Eoin O Connor who had an excellent game along with scoring a hat-rick of goals; bagged his opening goal after 5 minutes.
Shea Doran put Asdee/Bally further ahead with a fine point soon after. However Ballydonoghue began to exert their authority on the game and the sides were all square by the end of the first quarter; in fairness they could have been further ahead only for the brilliance of the combination sides keeper Ciaran Griffin who made a number of excellent saves. Goals were exchanged by Jack Kennelly for Ballydonoghue and Eoin O Connor for the combination side with the latter kicking over a further point leaving the half time score Asdee/Bally 2-2 Ballydonoghue 2-6.
Another Jack Kennelly goal on resumption saw Ballydonoghue lead by 7 points after just 2 minutes. Once again the combination sides Eoin O Connor came to the rescue scoring his third goal along with 2 pointed frees reducing the deficit to the minimum. However Ballydonoghue finished in style kicking over the match winning scores to claim victory.
