Results: Senior County League, Firies B 0-07 Asdee 5-10, Asdee opened their 2024 County League Division 5 season with an excellent win over Firies B in Farranfore on Saturday afternoon. The home side were quicker out of the blocks & went into a 3-point lead before Asdee started to hit their stride.

Some lovely pieces of play against the wind saw Asdee claw back through 3 Darragh Keane points & one each from Brendan Keane & Paul O’Carroll, to go in 5 points apiece at half-time.

The second half saw an outstanding display from 1 to 15, with excellent work & turnovers at the back, high fielding around the middle & some beautiful kick passing to the forwards, whose movement was excellent. The breakthrough goal came from Stephen Lynch who cut through, calmly rounded the keeper & finished to the net to open a lead for the first time.

Then last year’s Kerry Minor, Oisin Healy, who was a threat all day, coolly hit the net twice in quick succession on his County League debut, following great team moves. Brendan Keane & Darragh Keane then both scored similar goals, both fielding high balls before beating their man & converting with 2 excellent finishes.

Firies tried to find a breakthrough at the other end but the defence held firm, with excellent debut performances from Tommy O’Neill, Liam Lawlor & Mark O’Donoghue. Paul O’Carroll & man of the match Brendan Keane added 2 more points each, before Jack Hannon hit a lovely outside of the boot point to bring the scoring to a close at 5-10 to Firies B 0-7.
