SPONSORSHIP On behalf of the Club we would like to thank Jeanette and Jim Keane of Black Rose Building Services L.T.D. who very kindly sponsored a beautiful set of Hoodies to be worn in advance of the Bernard O Callaghan Memorial Senior Football Championship against Brosna on Sunday next at Frank Sheehy Park, Listowel. 1pm.
Jenanette who hails from Asdee West but now domiciled in Leagrave, Bedfordshire, England comes from a well known G A A family that has been involved in many aspects of the game in the parish. Jeanette herself was very involved in Scor and was a member of the Asdee Ballad Group that represented the club at the Munster Finals of Scor Sinsear at Clonmel in 1996.
The presentation was made by Jeanette at Jack J’s, Bar, Asdee on Thursday night November 19th to the members of the Championship panel and selection committee.
CHAMPIONSHIP Brosna v Asdee. The majority of footballer followers will put this one down as a David v Goliath clash and rightly so; after all Brosna are the 2014/15 All Ireland Junior Football Champions against a team that it took 19 years to qualify for the Quarter Finals of the Bernard O Callaghan Memorial North Kerry Senior Football Championship for the second time ever.
The bookies will have the boys in Tangerine and White down as bankers. However the Shannonsiders will go into this game with no pressure while Brosna will look back on some of their encounters with Asdee that had great difficulty on a few occasions to get over the line; in fact it took a replay to see off Asdee in their first championship meeting in 2010. Still it would probably be the shock of the championship if Asdee were to turn over Brosna; they are oozing with talent from number 1 to number 30 and are still turning on the style on each outing.
On the other hand Asdee will be no pushover; they have prepaired well and they too have plenty talent on their side and if they can show the same spirit and determination they have shown during the year then they might not be far of the mark for a semi final place. Looking back to 2014 and it took a huge effort from Beale to see off Asdee and who went on to win the title afterwards, Castleisland Desmonds edged out Asdee the previous year by a single point but lost out in the final in controversial circumstances and this year they had a one point win over their fellow parishioners Bally in the first Round while who may not be going great this year but their history in the championship is second to none.
In their game with Moyvane Brosna turned on the style for the second half to win confortably in the end. So will the Frank Sheehy Park, Listowel witness the Shannonsiders reaching the Semi Final or will Brosna move another step closer to reaching their first Championship Final. It promises to be an intriguing contest with Tarbert waiting on the wings for the winners for that eagerly awaited semi final spot.
The Management team of John Kennedy, Dan Dalton and John Doran are doing trojan work and with the help of our marvelous Community we just take every game as it comes and always look forward to our next win. Can this Sunday be the day we dream of and with a good mix of youth and experience we can give at least a good account of ourselves.
The Championship panel who have worked tremendously hard; Eoin Kennedy, John Doran, Padraig Ruddle, Brian Coughlan, Matthew O Hanlon, Noel Long, David O Connor Conor Coughlan, Cyril Dineen, Darren Russell, Paul O Carroll, Micheal Walsh, Charles Dalton, James Kelly, Dinny Dalton and Eoin O Carroll would be our more established players and with the younger brigade of Kieran Kelly, Sean Keane, Keith McNamara, Patrick Horgan Padraig Buckley, Con Carmody, Eoin Tydings, Darragh Keane, Michael Tydings, Martin Collins, Mike Breen, we can look forward to the future with confidence. Brosna will be the firm favourites but expect a tough examination from St. Marys.
FASHION SHOW
We would like to congratulate everybody involved on their extremely successful Fashion Show held in a packed Asdee Community Centre on Friday last 20th November which was a Fundraiser for Asdee Coiste Na nOg. Most of our underage and senior members took part, as well as many more people from the parish & the support from the community was both welcome and heartwarming. A great night was had by all.
A particular word of thanks to Sinead Doyle for her huge work in organising the night and to the numerous others who participated or helped in preparing the hall. Special mention to Eoin O’Carroll for doing a great job as MC for the show. All of the models were a credit and displayed their array of outfits with confidence and a touch of class.
In the build-up to Christmas, we wish continued success to each of the clothing shops who had their ranges on display, as well as the shops and individuals who had their accessories and products for sale on the night.
