SHANNON RANGERS,

Shannon Rangers 1-10  South Kerry 3-16.

A 12 point defeat for the Shannonsiders against the pre match favourites South Kerry in round 1 of the Garveys Supervalu County Senior football Championship might seem a one sided encounter but even though the South Kerry men were full value for victory Rangers put it up to them for long periods of the game. However Shannon Rangers put in a plucky performance and at the break it was 1-8 to 0-7 in favour of the South Kerry men after Rangers kicked 4 wides inside the opening 10 minutes. On the changeover Darragh Keane our sole representive from the club was introduced where he went on to be very effective in his midfield role. At least two goal opportunities were squandered during the opening  8 minutes while South Kerry were much more economical in their shooting and when Brian Sheehan scored from the penalty spot and Sam Dwyer notched another after Denis Daly in the first half it was always going to be an uphill battle. In fairness to Shannon Rangers they never gave up the chase and were rewarded with an excellent goal from Jack O Sullivan. Shannon Rangers will now play Kenmare District in the loosers round of the competition on this weekend with venue and time to be confirmed.Team Darragh O Shea, Ballydonoghue, Philly Blake, Beale, Jason Foley, Ballydonoghue, Tadhg McEllistrim, Ballylongford, Shane Enright, Tarbert, Michael Foley, Ballydonoghue, Jack Goulding, Ballyduff, Jeremy King, Beale, Jack O Sullivan, Ballyduff,  1-1,Cormac Linnane, Beale, Brian O Sheanachain, Ballydonoghue, Gerard O Sullivan, Tarbert, 1pt, Paul Kennelly, Ballydonoghue, 2pts, Mark Buckley, Tarbert, Jack Kennelly, Ballydonoghue, 6pts.
