COUNTY LEAGUE. Asdee 0-13 Cromane 1-7

Our senior footballers opened their Credit Union County Football League Division 5 campaign with a fantastic victory over a fancied Cromane side who had home advantage and despite the visitors having to line out without a number of regulars; this really added to the win.

Certainly this was a superb team performance with everybody really committed in a game that was played throughout at championship pace and swung from end to end with the result hanging in the balance up to the sound of the final whistle. Eoin Kennedy from a free opened Asdees account followed by a similar score from County player Donnacha Walsh.

The home side extended their lead in the 15th minute through Liam Walsh. Cromane had slightly the better of matters and Emmet Casey hammered in a goal with 5 minutes remaining in the half. However Asdee responded in style and 3 points on the trot from John Doran, Mike Breen and Darragh Keane and at the interval it was Cromane 1-3 Asdee 0-4.

On resumption the visitors were quick out of blocks with Eoin Kennedy splitting the uprights. Cromane replied with 2 points. Further points were exchanged from Darragh Keane and Paul O Sullivan. It was tit for tat up to now but suddenly Asdee hit a new gear and 5 points on the trot; Mike Breen hit 5 points with Kieran Kelly coming from his number 5 spot to fire over.

Without doubt the Asdee defence were very much under pressure but they held firm as Cromane came in droves looking for the score that might give them the result they looked for but once again Eoin Kennedy held his nerve to send the ball over and secure a victory over the pre match favourites.
