COUNTY LEAGUE Asdee 4-6 Austin Stacks “B” 1-12.

Played at Walsh Park on Saturday evening last the home side had to pull out all the
stops having to withstand severe pressure by the visitors in an effort to at least tie up the contest in the closing minutes which included 5 minutes of injury time. Certainly Stacks will rue the number of clear cut opportunities that went well wide of the mark during the duration of the game (17 in all) and even that may well have even given them the County league points on offer.

However Asdee stuck to their task and held on by the skin of their teeth. The game got off to a whirlwind start for the visitors and despite kicking 4 terrible wides they were 4pts (all from frees) without reply by the 14th minute with Declan Clifford (3) and Sean Dukes, (1). At this early stage it was all Stacks with each one of their attackers causing the Asdee defence endless problems and if they had been on target more often they could be much further ahead.

The home side who had very few attacks up to this got a lucky break with a long ball out of defence collected by the outstanding Darragh Keane who transferred to Eoin Kennedy and with still plenty to do he billowed the net from close range after 15 minutes. Immediately from the kick out Asdee won possession again and Matthew O Hanlon was pulled down for a penalty but Eoin Tydings saw his effort saved for a 45 by Stacks keeper Barry Galvin.

Eoin Kennedy and Sean Ryan exchanged points before Asdee were awarded their second penalty which was converted by Eoin Kennedy after 29mts. Then on the stroke of the half time whistle a high delivery into a crowded Stacks goalmouth and was finished to the net by John Doran. Half Time; Asdee 3-1 Austin Stacks 0-5. Inside the 4th minute on resumption the Tralee side had cut the deficit to a single point with Sean Ryan who kicked 4pts from his wing back position sending over and Cian Liston getting in for a goal.

The home side regrouped again and points from Darragh Keane, Mike Breen both frees and Matthew O Hanlon play had them 3pts ahead by the 8th minute. Now the game was
in full flight and Stacks hit back and points from Sean Ryan, Donal O Sullivan, Declan Clifford and Seamus Bastible and had the margin down to a single point once again with 10mts left for play. Stacks were now squandering plenty scoring opportunities and worse was to follow in the 27th minute when Cyril Dineen with very little room crashed the
ball to the net and with a 4pt lead it looked ok for the home side. Still Stacks were attacking in droves as Sean Ryan and Theo Diggin split the uprights.

Darragh Keane had the final score of the game 3mts injury time when he shot over. In fairness to both sides they served up a very entertaining game despite slippery conditions but Stacks can count themselves unlucky not to have got something out of the
game. The game marked the introduction of Sam Dowd who lined out for Asdee at wing back at this level for the first time and can feel very happy with his performance.

UNDER 14s In preparation for the upcoming Feile our Under 14 squad
were given a day out at the recent Munster football championship semi
final at Fitzgerald Stadium. Starting off the day with an early
throw-in against the home side in Blennerville and finishing it off
with photos alongside members of the Kerry team, our u14 team had an
enjoyable and busy day.

With excitement growing as the start of Feile approaches on this Friday 24th June, the u14 team put in an excellent performance winning by a point following on from recent challenges against Ballydonoghue and Duagh. Following on from this, kitted off in
their new gear, the team travelled in convoy to Killarney to take in
the Kerry games via a stop off for some food in Supermacs! The day was
completed in style as the boys met many members of the Kerry team on
the pitch after the final whistle. Many photos were taken with Kerry
