NORTH KERRY LEAGUE – Fingue 3-7 Asdee 1-4
“Storm Dennis” failed to deter these two teams from fulfilling their fixture on Sunday last at the James O Sullivan Park, Finuge which was in excellent underfoot conditions despite the difficult weather condition we have been experiencing.
However this game had its ups and downs as with 20 minutes gone in the opening half saw Referee Mike Joy call a halt to proceedings due to torrential rain and driving wind and it looked for a while that the remainder of the game would not continue with the home team leading 1-3 to 0-.
However, the game resumed after that interval and was played out with Finuge deserving winners. Certainly the home side were the better team on the day and were better able to adopt to the conditions that prevailed; however even though the margin of victory was 9pts the visitors put up a game show against the pre match favourites and only for some poor shooting when scores looked on and some poor decision making that led to the opposition taking advantage; they can be happy with their overall display.
The game opened on a high note for Asdee with Darragh Keane splitting the posts to open the scoring but by the 16th minute Finuge had gone 3pts to 1pt ahead. As already stated, the visitors were in squandermania form and at the other end the home team struck for goals in a 3-minute spell with Jason Wallace and Ricky Heffernan on target.
Jack Keane did get a point back for Asdee leaving the half time score; Finuge 2-4 Asdee 0-2. On resumption conditions improved considerably with wind and rain disappearing and what the players had to endure in the first half at least they could very well enjoy for the second period. Still Finuge were always to the fore with Asdee hanging on gamely.
A penalty awarded to the visitors was put well away by Darren Russell after 14 minutes and Eoin Tidings, (f) and Cyril Dineen put over points but was never enough as Finuge added their 3rd goal from Jason Wallace to wrap up matters.
Team; Ryan Henry, Con Carmody, Kieran Kelly, Conor Keane, Jack Collins, Martin Collins, Jack Keane, John Doran, Sean Keane, Paul O Carroll, Darragh Keane, Darren Russell, Cyril Dineen, Eoin Tydings, Eoin Kennedy.
