ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
The 31th Annual General Meeting of St. Marys Asdee G A A Club took
place at the Community Centre on Saturday evening last January14th
that saw a good sized crowd in attendance with just one change in
Officership from the previous year as long serving John Pius Walsh
stepped down from his position of Assistant Treasurer which will be
filled at the first meeting of the Club..
Prior to the meeting getting underway there was a minutes silence
observed for all who suffered bereavements during the year gone by.
Chairman, Padraig Vallelly welcomed all to the meeting and thanked
everybody for their wonderful support once again during the year past
with a special mention to our many sponsors too numerous to mention
who came on board which includes our team sponsors who have been also
very generous to the Club; Jeanette and James Keane, of Black Rose
Building Services, Limited, England and Claire and Jerry O Mahony of
Brandon Products, Kilcolman Asdee.
Secretary Mark O Hanlon once again gave a very detailed account of the
year gone by stating that despite a difficult year in terms of
fielding understrength teams due to injuries and other commitments the
Club still played all games, reaching the semi final of the North
Kerry League, finishing mid table in the County League, showing great
spirit in the County Junior Championship against Firies, Ballyduff
before exiting the competition against Beale by the narrowest of
margins. In the North Kerry Senior Football Championship we fell at
the first hurdle against the eventual winners, Ballydonoghue. The Club
had players representing St. Marys at all grades with Shannon Rangers
and were also involved from Under 10 to Under 21 with Ballylongford
and in particular at Under 14 level it was the year of the Feile and
the team did brilliant only to be denied by a poor refereering
decision to gain entry to the semi final of their group and great
credit is due to Siobhain Keane for the massive amount of work she did
in majority of the organising. The Secretary urged more to get
involved at Under age level. Eoin Kennedy came in for much praise in
organising Fundraiser “Stars in your Eyes” which was a huge success;
Ivan Tydings for his tremendous work for the National Draw which
brought in much needed cash for the day to day running of the Club;
Patsy Coughlan and Kevin Mulvihill in particular for their work with
the “Golden Goal” , the team management, John Kennedy, Dan Dalton and
Sean Doran who in difficult circumstances at times made sure all
fixtures were fulfilled and everybody who put their shoulder to the
wheel in helping the Club in other ways. Treasurer John Joe O Carroll
outlined the Clubs finances but he urged more to get involved in
fundraising.
