COUNTY LEAGUE

The Credit Union County League Division 5 (Group B) game due to be played on Saturday evening last did not go ahead as our opponents Beaufort “B” were unable to  field a team. This was disappointing as our recently crowned McCarthys Insurance Brokers North Kerry League Division 2 champions were looking forward to the challenge.

However its now more than likely that the  League points on offer will now be awarded to Asdee. Certainly this has been a great County League campaign despite having to field understrength on a few occasions but the team and management never shied away from the challenge and at present the team are placed third in their Group in the County League table and in a great position to go through to the league play-offs for promotiom to Division 4 which was last achieved in 1995.

Now to do that Legion “B” and Kilgarvan both away and Austin Stacks “B” at home must be overcome which are winnable to say the least  the way the squad are performing at the minute.  The County League started off in the best possible way with the clash with our fellow parishioners and great rivals Ballylongford with whome all our under age players play with as Asdee/Bally.

At the end of a great sporting occasion it was the boys from the Eastern side of the parish that took the spoils. Next up was Moyvane away and looking back on this encounter with Asdee ahead by 9 points and as the say the points in the bag; but the visitors took their eye off the ball and allowed the home side to snatch the win.

Asdee got back on track with a hard earned victory over Rathmore “B” which was followed by a loss to Knocknagoshel away and in fairness this was a game that a draw would have been a fairer result. I suppose the game with Cromane was crucial as both teams needed the points to creep up the league table. At the end of an obsorbing contest it was the Shannonsiders who just edged out the Mid Kerry men.

The famed John Mitchels came next and here despite having the majority of possession a one point win was gladly taken. So the remaining 3 games are very important and certainly the way the team are performing at present they are more that capable of reaching their target. Then if everything goes according to plan which is more that likely to happen, the prize at the end of the day will be a mouth-watering clash with our near neighbours and Seasiders. Beale.

Both Knocknagoshel and Kilgarvan are in pole position at the moment with the winners of their upcoming clash getting automatic promotion and the loosers going into the playoffs. So an exciting few weeks ahead as we approach the draw shortly for the Bernard O Callaghan Memorial Senior Football Championship; Sponsored by McMunns Bar and Restaurant, Ballybunion.

WALSH PARK

It is a very important year for the Club not alone on the playing fields but also as the further Development of Jack Walsh Park will be going ahead .

Certainly our latest Development will take top priority; as in recent years due to the inclement weather conditions we experienced; Walsh Park was unavailable to play matches for the first few months of the year which was a source of disappointment to the Club as a unit; having to forfeit home advantage.

So the Club decided to go ahead and do a major job with the surface of the field which is now underway and is being overseen by agronomist James Healy, who has previously worked with his chosen contractors to create top class playing surfaces in Cordal & Lixnaw to name a few.

Work is underway and will hopefully be concluded within the month. Then the countdown begins to get playing in Jack Walsh Park once again.

GOLDEN GOAL  Week 22 winners in our Fundraisers”Golden Goal” over the past week were; Mike “Tricky” Enright, Beale and Ella McNamara, Tullahinell, Asdee who will each receive E40 to be given out each week to the winning number that corresponds with the first goal scored.

This is in conjunction with on going All Ireland Championship in both Football and Hurling; (Televised games). Tickets are available and will be on sale each week for the duration of the Championship from Club members and at the usual outlets; “Jack Jays” Bar and John Pius at E2 each.
