COUNTY LEAGUE. Asdee 0-9 Cromane 1-20. Cromane made the long trek
to O Rahilly Park, Ballylongford on Sunday last to take on Asdee in
the opening game in the Credit Union County Football League, Division
5 and after what was a disappointing display by the home side it was
the visitors who won as they pleased with all six forwards getting on
the scoresheet..Make no mistake about it Cromane were far superior in
almost every sector of the field and in fact all but two of their
final tally came from open play. The foundation of their victory came
from midfield where Liam Walsh dominated proceedings and adding 4
points of their total. Emmett Casey was a tormenter in chief at full
forward along with Michael Shaughnessy and Dara Moynihan while in a
well drilled defence who had little difficulty in coping with the
opposing attack Eoghan Walsh and his rearguard led by example. As
already stated this was a well below performance by Asdee and only
Conor Keane, Darragh Keane Con Carmody and to a lesser extent Paul O
Carroll impressed. The game opened on a bright note for Asdee with
Paul O Carroll kicking over from an acute angle after 2 minutes but
this was quickly cancelled out by Michael Shaughnessy a minute later.
However after 15 minutes Cromane led by 0-6 to 0-2. Liam Walsh, Paul
Pat O Sullivan and Emmett Casey on target with Mike Breen replying for
the home side. The second quarter was dominated by Cromane as Liam
Walsh, Emmett Casey, Lee Carey and Liam Teehan kicking excellent
points and when Mike Houlihan got in for the games only goal in the
25th minute it was always going to be an uphill struggle for Asdee.
The home side did get on the scoresheet in between those scores from
Mike Breen and Conor Keane leaving the half time score Cromane 1-10
Asdee 0-5. On resumption Asdee needed a few quick scores but this
didn’t go according to plan as Michael Shaughnessy and Dara Moynihan
split the uprights early on for Cromane. Conor Keane in the 6th
minute, Mike Breen (f) 21st minute and Paul O Carroll and Darragh
Keane pointed with time almost up as Cromane just toyed with the
opposition kicking some wonderful points to finish worthy
winners.Teams; Asdee; James Kelly, Con Carmody, Martin Collins, Brian

MINORS. Bally/Asdee 3-11
Ballydonoghue 1-14 Played at O Rahilly Park, Ballylongford on
Saturday last the home team continued their impressive run in Division
6 “A” of the County league This was a free flowing game of football
with some excellent scores by both sides and in fairness the
combination side just about edged out a fancied Ballydonoghue in a rip
roaring encounter that went right down to the wire. At the break the
sides couldn’t be seperated with the scoreline reading; Bally/Asdee
2-5 Ballydonoghue 1-8. Sean Hanrahan and a penalty by Owen O Connor
were our goalscorers. On resumption it was nip and tuck but a further
goal coming from Conor Keane seemed to be the crucial score, turning
the game in the home teams favour. Castlegregory is the next County
league game.
