NOVICE COUNTY SEMI FINAL This Sunday at 2pm at Frank Sheehy Park, Listowel Asdee will go head to head with St. Senans in the long awaited County Novice Championship Semi Final. This is really a big ask of Asdee who will be without a number of their regulars due to injury and other commitments; however one can only play with the hand that is dealt and hopefully the team can rise to the occasion but it will take an all out effort if victory can be achieved against a team who are odds on favourites to claim a County Novice Championship Final place.
NORTH CHAMPIONSHIP. Its that time of the year once again as we approach the opening rounds of the Mc Munns, Bar and Restaurant, Ballybunion, Sponsored Bernard O Callaghan Senior Football Championship 2015. Certainly it is probably always the most talked about District Board Championship in the County and for good reason as patrons flock in their droves to the various venues; and along with that all teams competing feel they have as good a chance as one another of collecting the Eamon O Donoghue Memorial Cup. Last years champions Beale who have not been impressing to date but no doubt will get a new lease of life in a bid to retain back to back titles; the last team to achieve this was Listowel Emmets in 2008/9. As already stated all teams feel they can do it but certainly one team to watch this year in my opinion would be Ballydonoghue; this team have gone from strength to strength this year gaining promotion for the second year in a row to Division 3 in the Credit Union County league; favourites to win the Novice County Championship, Winners of the County Minor League, Division 1 defeating Dingle in the final was a fantastic achievement for a rural club. Jason Foley and Brian O Sheannachain All Ireland Minor medal holders 2 years in a row together with Darragh O Shea All Ireland Junior medal winner will be the main force driving this star studded team and will be all out to bridge a 23 year gap since they collected the title back in 1992 captained by Jackie Dowling.
Then again Listowel Emmets, Castleisland Desmonds, Finuge, Brosna (another team to be reckoned with), Ballyduff , Beale and maybe Moyvane and St. Senans would be the ones to watch out for. The local St. Marys have drawn Ballylongford in the opening round and that is sure to attract plenty attention to Walsh Park; however Bally who are going through a rough period at present have a proud championship record and no doubt will be all out to win this local parish derby. Still either team would not be considered contenders for the title. So exciting times ahead for all North Kerry supporters once again.
The following are the dates for opening rounds with all first named teams having home venue;
Bye Knocknagoshel and Ballydonoghue
