MINORS
Asdee/Ballylongford/Ballydonoghue/Clounmacon 1-9 Beale 0-12
Both sides will have to do it all over again after an entertaining game played in miserable conditions at O’Sullivan Park Finuge in the North Kerry Minor League Division 1 Final.
There was little to separate these sides in their previous encounter and that is how it turned out again as it was nip and tuck all the way to the final whistle.
The combination side got off to a better start and Jack Kennelly who impressed throughout got their opening score with a pointed free, the same player got the only goal of the game shortly after when he was brought down in the square and made no mistake with the resultant penalty.
Beale for their part had missed a couple of chances but Barry O’Neill who was equally impressive kicked over a pointed free and Luke Donovan was beginning to find his range as they began to narrow the gap.
In an evening where handling errors were aplenty both sides coughed up numerous frees with most close in ones being converted, but as the half wore on it was Beale who were getting on top and took a one point lead into the break.
Half Time Score
Beale 0-8 Asdee/Ballylongford.Ballydonoghue. 1-4.
On the resumption Beale continued where they left off and were winning primary possession around the middle and slowly began to extend their lead but as scores were hard to comeby they were always within reach of their opponents, and it was some hard runs from Mikey Nolan and James Donegan that slowly reeled them in to leave just a point between the sides with time running out.
Eric Daly was also in the thick of the action for Beale and making some equally good runs but a turnover late on led to Brendan O’Neill bringing the sides level and as the game edged into the third minute of injury time neither side could land the winning score although there was some near misses.
Both side had a couple of goal chances during the half Beale made Cathal Doran dive full stretch to keep out a goal bound shot while Jack Kennelly had a shot from distance well saved by Aaron Buckley, there was also a couple of goalmouth scrambles to throw into the mix as a good sized crowd urged on their team in a nail biting finish.
As the intensity increased so too did the tackling and it envidentaly led to three black cards being issued and a couple of yellow’s by referee Mike Hennessy.
However all in all a draw was a fair result and hopefully drier conditions will prevail for the replay for these young players to display their skills.
