CHAMPIONSHIP.  Due to a bereavement the Asdee v Ballydonoghue game in
the first round of the Bernard O Callaghan Memorial Senior football
championship which is sponsored by McMunns Bar and Restaurant,
Ballybunion due to go ahead on Sunday last was postponed. Dates for
the refixture proved difficult with Ballydonoghues having a busy
schedule in both County and North Kerry and the only date available
for the re fixture  will be Sunday November 6th at 2pm at Denis
Dowling Park, Coolard. On behalf of the club we would like to thank
both the Ballydonoghue club and the North Kerry Football Board for
allowing the postponement which is much appreciated in the
circumstances.

SCOR. Its that time of the year once again when some of our G A A
activities will move indoors with all clubs including the local St.
Marys who will be getting organised for all upcoming Scor competitions
which will be commencing at District Board level at early  November at
the latest with Scor Na Nog. Looking forward to another year is local
club Cultural Officer, Kathleen Carmody who will be organising her
competitors for the various competitions for the year ahead. Scor is a
competition that combines all the colour of rivalry of Gaelic Games
with the social/fun element of Irelands traditional past times.

The competition was established by the G A A in 1969 by a Cork man; Derry
Gowan with the aim of promoting Irelands traditional pastimes and
culture while offering club members the chance to meet up, have fun
and represent their club during the winter months. There are eight
discplines that covers all aspects of Irish culture and to compete all
clubs are asked to take part in at least any two of the following;
Figure and Set Dancing, Instrumental Music, Ballad Group, Solo
Singing, Leiru, (Novelty), Recitation, or Question Time.  Just like
the All Ireland Football and Hurling Championships clubs must first
take part in a County Final; (District final prior to County) with the
winners to go through to the Provincial finals and then on to the All
Ireland finals.
It is interesting to note that the All Ireland Scor champions are presented with their medals by the President of the GAA; winners in their own right in the same way as All Ireland Football or Hurling final winners. However first up is Scor Na nOg which is for young people under 17 years of age and the County Finals are pencilled in for the C.Y.M.S, Killorglin on Friday November 11th with time to be
confirmed. As like all Districts Boards the North Kerry Football Board
must have their District finals completed before this date so as to
have their winners to go forward to County. This competition will be
at Provincial level as Scor Sinsear will be getting underway after the
Festive season; again the same formation and is for over 17s.
The final  competition; Scor Na bPaisti  which is for National School
children and will finish at County level; Sean Nos Dancing extra
discipline) Without doubt this is probably the most enjoyable of all
Scor competitions with huge interest shown by both parents and
competitiors alike and is certain to draw huge attendances to all
venues. So hopefully all clubs within the County should make a huge
effort and get involved and Cultural Officers make sure your club will
be involved in Scor competitions for the 2016/17 season.

SHANNON RANGERS. In the Lee Strand Sponsored County Under 16 District
Championship; (Plate) Shannon Rangers went down rather tamely despite
putting up a creditable score to a well drilled St. Brendans Board
outfit played at Na Gaeil pitch on Sunday last. Shannon Rangers 2-16
St. Brendans Board 7-20. The local club were represented at all grades
from Under 14 up to senior level with the Shannonsiders.

Overall it was not a particulary successful year for the club but in fairness
both players and management at all levels did everything possible to
try and bring silverware back to the Shannonside and Club Officers and
the respective team trainers are already putting plans in motion for
2017.  The Bishop Moynihan Cup last visited Shannonside 39 years ago
(1977) when Jackie Walsh, Ballylongford captained Shannon Rangers to a
4pt victory over Feale Rangers in an all North Kerry County final.

NORTH CHAMPIONSHIP. The Bernard O Callaghan Memorial North Kerry
Senior Football Championship, Sponsored my McMuns Bar and Restaurant,
Ballybunion got underway on Saturday evening last with the clash of
Castleisland Desmonds who were at home to Beale in round 1;  Final
score; Castleisland Desmonds champions in 2007, 5-9 defeated  Beale
2014 winners, 1-11.
