County Junior Championship Rd3, Asdee 0-10, Moyvane 1-10.

Despite both teams having exited the competition they served up a most entertaining encounter at O Rahilly Park, Ballylongford on Sunday last.

Certainly going on recent clashes there was never much between the sides with probably honors even and on this occasion it was more of the same; so this time round Moyvane edged out their great rivals and even though a stirring second half display by Asdee; it was Moyvane who just about deserved their victory overall.

Moyvane’s star contributor Eamon Flaherty won the throw-in soloed his way to the 20-meter line and split the uprights inside 20 seconds. However, Asdee were quick to respond when wing back Mike Breen leveled the contest.

Colin Enright and Darragh Keane swooped points before Asdee were reduced to 14 when they lost a player to a black card. Despite this Asdee had to work harder and points from Shane Stack and Man of the Match Micheal Fogarty saw them lead 0-4 to 0-2.

Darragh Keane cut the deficit to a point in the 25th minute but the Newsandes men finished the half in style with Eamon Flaherty pointing and the inform Micheal Fogarty billowing the net to leave the half time score; Moyvane 1-6 Asdee0-3.

It was now an uphill battle for Asdee and they needed to up their game 100%  and even though Micheal Fogarty and Shane Stack increased Moyvane’s lead to 1-8 to 0-3 the Shannonsiders got stuck in; inspired by a super performance from Eoin Kennedy who roamed the field along with Darragh Keane, Darran Russell and Paul O Carroll they hit 5 pts in a row to narrow the gap to a 2pt margin as we approached the full time whistle with points from Paul O Carroll, Darragh Keane and Darren Russell.

Try as they did, they could never get in for the score that would have given them victory and deep into injury time midfielder Tadhg McEvoy secured the win for his team. Once again Asdee’s biggest problem is to put scores on the board which has cost them on numerous occasions being the difference between victory and defeat.

As already stated, Moyvane are a fine young side with plenty talented footballers; in Martin Stack, Jer Clancy, Liam Greaney, Shane Stack along those already mentioned. and deserved the win.

Asdee now go into the Novice County Championship which is a competition they could very well be successful and they will be relying on Kieran Kelly, Darragh Keane, Eoin Kennedy, Darren Russell, Martin Collins,Eoin Tydings amongst others.

Congratulation to both Brendan Keane and Patrick Mulvihill who were playing members of the Shannon Rangers Minor Football team that were defeated by West Kerry in the Keanes Super Value County Minor Football Championship played at Denis Dowling Park, Coolard recently.
