NORTH  KERRY  SENIOR  CHAMPIONSHIP.  Knocknagoshel v Asdee. The bookies will have either of  these two teams down as no hopers to win the McMunns Bar and Restaurant, Ballybunion, Sponsored Bernard O Callaghan Memorial North Kerry Senior Football Championship and maybe rightly so; Knocknagoshel have never lifted the Eamon O Donoghue Cup and it was Craughdarrig who represented Asdee away back in 1934 with their one and only title; and in fairness to say who ever comes out of this encounter on Sunday would be clashed as easy prey for their opponents in the next round.

However sometimes it dosent go according to plan though; as happened on a several different occasions down through the years. Just look at Brosna who were rated very average back through the years but they went to Croker and brought home a National Title and in fairness they could very well have captured the Eamon O Donoghue a few years ago when Listowel Emmets defeated them after a replay. Asdee took them to a replay the year they won the All Ireland Junior so that just tells you North Kerry Championship medals can be hard to get a hold of.

Both Asdee and Knock as already stated have been struggling and  haven’t that much success to date; going out in the earlier rounds on the majority of occasions; Asdee who have been playing in the Senior Championship since the mid 90s and have only got over the first round on 2 occasions defeating Ballydonoghue in 1996 and Ballylongford 19 years later but to be fair Asdee have always put up a good show against the so called stronger teams and on a few occasions having been unlucky not to take the spoils.

Going back to the game itself these teams have clashed on several occasions at North Kerry League and Credit Union County League but never in Senior North Kerry Championship but the thing is that Knock have the Indian sign over Asdee in the past few years and hopefully this can be rectified this time round. In fairness both teams are not fairing out well in competition with a few years and on Asdees side of the story their season has not gone according to plan to say the least, struggling at the wrong end of Division 5; they have been plagued with injuries and retirements and with a very tight panel to pick from.

It has been difficult but with the great work done by our Management team ;John Kennedy and Dan Dalton and the help of our marvelous Community we just take every game as it comes and always look forward to our next win. Can this Sunday be the day we dream of;  but as already stated write of Knock at your peril; we do struggle against them and it will take a full blooded effort from each member of the panel to get over this encounter.

As for the favourities tag; this will go out the window on this occasion as it will be all on the day and the team that rises to the occasion will qualify for the next round. Hopefully that team will be Asdee.
