COUNTY LEAGUE.  This Sunday March 12th will see our Senior Footballers
go into action with a home game against Cromane in Round 1 of the
Credit Union County Football League Division 5, 2017. Certainly the
Club priority for 2017 will have to be to get out of this Division;
having laboured for too long now in this position. It is always hard
to get promotion in any of the Divisions but this Division seems very
difficult to get out of as it has proved for some of the so called
stronger teams down through the years. Its all about promotion and
meeting new teams each year but this Division very rarely changes from
year to year; its all on the day and after a long hard haul of 12
games you need that little bit of luck on your way. On a few occasions
we were well on track for promotion but were always that little bit
short when it came to go up a Division. In fairness in last years
League the team had been showing well early on in the League but as we
moved on we seemed to have difficulty in fielding full strength sides;
i suppose; firstly that our numbers are tight and secondly players
have problems with match times through no fault of their own may i
add. Certainly the players are determined and im sure will give a good
account of themselves. Last year we had probably a tough assignment
with the fact that we had so many injury problems; but no excuses we
always fielded; sometimes under difficult circumstances and this is
due to great work from our Trainer John Kennedy and his Selectors, Dan
Dalton and Sean Doran. The team have been putting in a hugh effort in
training and along with a few games played in the McCarthys Insurance
Brokers North Kerry League Division 2 so hopefully this will help us
for the year ahead. We have a good enough record when playing against
our opponents on Sunday both at home and away; so the team will go in
full of confidence and two County League points would set us up for a
full charge for promotion. This year the County League will have 13
teams in the Division with Kilgarvan who were concentrating on hurling
the past few years are back again. Asdee will have six home games;
Cromane which is the opening game in the League on this Sunday March
12th, Ballylongford, Rathmore “B”, Kilgarvan, Churchill and Cordal
while Ballyduff, Austin Stacks,”B”, Moyvane, Knocknagoshel, Tuosist
and Valentia will provide the opposition away. So its the start of a
new football season and hopefully results and a full turnout of
players will be kind to us for the year ahead.The format will be that
the top three teams in Division 5 will be promoted to Division 4.
