County Junior Championship Rd1, Asdee 1-5, Duagh 4-11
If this impressive display by Duagh is an indication of the Clubs intent to win this grade then they are on the right track as they had too much power and accuracy for a disappointing and indiscipline Asdee side and along with the sending off of midfielder Kieran Kelly in the 7th minute of the second half; they gave away too many frees with the opposition taking full advantage and long before the sound of George O Donnells final whistle this game was over as a contest .
Led and inspired by centre forward Martin Scannell who roamed the field along with, Ted Moloney, Jason Carmody and Dan O Donoghue they just toyed with the opposition and were in complete control throughout. The game got underway with accidental clashes which led to an 8-minute injury time at the end of the half and when play resumed as Duagh playing against a stiffish breeze played into the Village end.
Jason Carmody opened the scoring with a neat point from a free which was followed by similar scores through Martin Scanlon, Nigel O Connor, Dan O Donoghue with Darragh Keane kicking over a free after 11 minutes.
A minute later Asdee were thrown a lifeline when they were awarded a penalty and Eoin Tydings made no mistake from the spot kick leaving the sides all square. However that was as good as it gets as the home side took over and Jason Carmody, Nigel O Connor and a cracking goal from Martin Scanlon left the half time score; Duagh 1-7 Asdee 1-1.
Paul O Carroll got a point back for Asdee in the 4th minute but again a ragged defence say wing back Ted Moloney soccer style to the net. As already mentioned, Asdee were down to 14 players and in fact were very lucky not to be further reduced.
Darragh Keane and 2 punched points by Anthony Maher saw the teams retire for the water break. Duagh had used their bench up as we approached the final 12 minutes Kieran Buckley and Donnagh struck for further goals with Ted Moloney and Dan O Donoghue kicking points with Asdees reply coming from Darren Russell and Darragh Keane.
In fairness Eoin Tydings, Eoin Kennedy, Darragh Keane, Darren Russell, and goalkeeper Ryan Henry who made two spectacular saves at point blank range couldn’t be faulted for effort.
Asdee team, Ryan Henry, Con Carmody, Kieran Kelly, Conor Keane, Shea Doran, Michael Tydings, Martin Collins, Mike Breen, Jack Keane, Darragh Keane, Darren Russell, Eoin Tydings, Eoin Kennedy, Paul O Carroll, Sean Keane.
