Asdee v Knocknagoshel. Sunday October 15th, 1pm. Jack Walsh Park.
Dates have been confirmed by the C.C.C. of the North Kerry Football Board for the 2017 McMunns Bar and Restaurant Sponsored Bernard O Callaghan Memorial North Kerry Senior Football Championship; with the burning question on everyones lips even at this early stage before a ball has been kicked; who will lift the much saught after Eamon O Donoghue Memorial Cup come December ?
Can Ballydonoghue bookies favourites do back to back titles after waiting 25 years for last years title; can either Brosna, Knocknagoshel or St. Senans lift the Cup for the first time. Im sure Listowel Emmets surely second choice contenders will for certain have a say on the final outcome, Brosna or Finuge who meet; winners here will be there or there-about. Beale team building at the minute but just don’t write them off. the Duffers will get much stronger if they survive a tricky opening round against Castleisland Desmonds who for a huge Club are having a difficult season.
Moyvane who lead the way for Championship titles; well they have re-written the script on several occasions; Can Duagh put a spanner in the works. Tarbert are always a great championship team and can be a handful for the best when on form. North Kerry Football Championship can be so unpredictable and on plenty occasions some of the so called top teams at certain times can bite the dust. Its all about questions but we will have to wait for another while for the answers.
All first named teams will enjoy home venue in the opening round with extra time if required; so getting the competition underway on Sunday October 15th at 1pm will be the clash of Asdee v Knocknagoshel at Walsh Park, Asdee. Just back the road in Stack Park Ballybunion on the same date; Beale will play last years finalists St. Senans at 2 30pm. Both Tarbert and Listowel Emmets received byes to the second round.
Looking a little bit ahead im sure Ballydonoghue who have a serious squad will fancy their chances followed closely by Listowel Emmets who will be the teams to watch if they can avoid each other in the draw for the remainder of the Championship. The draw for the quarter Finals of the Championship will take place at Christys the Well, Listowel on this Wednesday October 4th where a full delegate meeting of the Board will take place with a starting time of 8pm.

E40 was given out each week to the winning number which corresponded with the first goal scored.
This was the final “Golden Goal” of 2017 which was a good money spinner for the club and showed a nice profit at the end of this popular Fundraiser. Firstly on behalf of the club we would like to thank everybody who subscribed to the event as without your continued support it certainly would not have been the success that it was. I suppose the tickets had to be sold every week and here Kevin Mulvihill and Patsy Coughlan excelled at their task.
Our ticket outlets; Mairead at the Post Office, Maria at “Jack Jays” Bar and Maria and John Pius, “Homestead who also helped out. The club will have a few more Fundraisers coming up to the Festive season with Card games, Quizes and the Annual Christmas Draw which is always a huge event with the huge Christmas Hamper a big attraction; plus plenty more spot prizes up for grabs..
TOMMY MADDEN. After receiving a bye to the quarter finals of the Under 13 Tommy Madden Cup Asdee/Bally failed dismally against Moyvane going down on a scoreline of Moyvane 3-12 Asdee/Bally 1-8 played at Con Brosnan Park, Moyvane recently.
SHANNON RANGERS. Its been a dismal year to say the least from a Shannon Rangers G A A club point of view with all teams representing the club at; senior, under 21, minor, under 14 level. However there was at least one bright spark with the display of the Under 16 and even though they lost out in the Under 16 County Championship by a single score; 4-16 to 3-16 to a fancied Tralee District that took in (Stacks, Rahillys, Na Gael, St. Pats). It was on to the Plate competition and here Rangers went down by a point; 3-9 to 1-14 to Kenmare District.
The local Asdee/Bally underage Club were well represented at all age groups while St. Marys, Asdee supplied players to the senior squad. The teams involved in the Shannon Rangers set up are; Tarbert, Ballydonoghue, Ballylongford, Ballyduff, Beale and Asdee; all good solid clubs with plenty excellent players to represent their District Board. This is the stage where players can be seen and who knows maybe a call for Kerry training could result; Lets get up and running for 2018 and get back Shannon Rangers to what it should be once again.
