COUNTY LEAGUE

This Sunday, 2pm in Kilgarvan our senior footballers have a very important fixture when they take on the home side in the final round of the County League Division 5 Group  “B”. Three teams to be promoted ; One from either group with the remaining Four placed teams; (2 from each group )playing off for the final promotion position.

Already both Knocknagoshel have topped the group and are assured of promotion; so the scenario is Kilgarvan are already ahead of the remaining teams involved and  in the play-off so the final place rests on a number of game results.

Both  Austin Stacks “B” and Moyvane at home playing Cromane and Rathmore “B” respectively; are still in contention just a point adrift of Asdee. If Asdee defeat Kilgarvan then they will play Beale in one semi final but if Asdee draw and a Moyvane or Stacks victory then it would be decided on scoring averages.

All IRELAND FINAL.

A huge continguent of local supporters travelled to the All Ireland Final on Sunday last and for those who south tickets from the club for the match were well looked after. For this; great credit is due to our very efficient club Secretary, Mark O Hanlon who as always handled this tough work load without bother.

CHAMPIONSHIP DRAW

Its coming to that time of the year once again when all North Kerry Gaels will be looking forward to the North Kerry Senior Football Championship Draw which is probably the most talked about District Board Championship in the County; I suppose the time of
the year creates extra interest as followers from all over the County
flock to see our games and especially the final.

Last years final saw St. Senans create their own piece of history by winning their first North Kerry Senior Championship defeating Ballydonoghue who were seeking a -3-in-a- row of District Titles and that saw a couple of thousand patrons attend and enjoy the glamour of what is the North Kerry Senior Football Championship.

This year once again Asdee will be among the 14 Clubs entering the draw for the Bernard O Callaghan Memorial North Kerry Senior football Championship 2019 which will take place on this Friday 6th of  September at 8pm sharp in McMunns Hotel
and Restaurant Ballybunion which is kindly sponsored by Greg and Una.

The prize for the winners at the end of the day will be the Eamon O
Donoghue Memorial Cup. So along with Asdee, Ballylongford,
Ballydonoghue, Beale, Brosna, Knocknagoshel, St. Senans, Finuge,
Ballyduff, Tarbert, Moyvane, Castleisland Desmonds, Listowel Emmets,
Duagh will all be entering the draw.

Since Asdee have taken part in the Senior Football Championship back in the late nineties they have faired out well against some of the so-called bigger clubs and on a few occasions have been unlucky not to have got the result.

However in 1996 and 2015 were the only years that the club have gone beyond the first Round defeating Ballydonoghue in 1997 and loosing to Listowel Emmets in Round 2 and in recent times; (2015) have put one over on our fellow parishioners Ballylongford before going down to Brosna who were the All Ireland Junior Club Champions at that particular time..

Along with the senior draw the following competitions will also be drawn on the night; U21, Minor, Junior and Novice Championship. Asdee will as already stated be in the hat for the Senior Championship while we will be joined with Ballylongford in the Under 21 and Minor Football Championship. Our club delegates.

Mark O Hanlon and Patsy Coughlan
will be representing St. Marys along with all the other club delegates..A very interesting night ahead with everybody anxiously awaiting who there opponents will be in the race for the coveted Eamon O Donoghue Cup.

GOLDEN GOAL  Week 28 winners in our Fundraisers”Golden Goal” over the past week were;  Brian Kennedy, Village and John Joe O Carroll, Kilcolman, Asdee  who will each receive E40 to be given out each week to the winning number that corresponds with the first goal scored.

This is in conjunction with on going All Ireland Championship in both Football and Hurling; (Televised games). Tickets are available and will be on sale each week for the duration of the Championship from Club members and at the usual outlets; “Jack Jays” Bar and John Pius at E2 each.
