MUNSTER SEMI FINAL. Asdee1-14 Feenagh/Kilmeedy 1-8.

There is no doubting but Sunday last has to be the proudest day in the short history of St. Marys Asdee G A A Club. Never in our wildest dreams could one imagine that the Club would be playing In a Munster and not to mind a Munster Final but that dream came true in spectacular fashion at Knockaderry, County Limerick on Sunday last where Asdee Senior Footballers playing some tremendous football with each of the 20 players used playing out of their skins and certainly proved great ambassadors for the County by overcoming a fancied Feenagh/Kilmeedy by a 6pt margin to qualify for the Junior “B” Munster Final on this Sunday at Knockaderry with a 2pm throw in.

The game itself was a tough physical encounter with no quarter given or asked. Asdee got off to a good start with early points coming from Darren Russell and Eoin Kennedy but even though defences on both sides were getting to grips with their respective opponents Asdee were taking what ever opportunities that came their way and at the break with further points from; Mike Breen, (4), Charles Dalton, Eoin Kennedy, Darren Russell and Michael Tydings, 1pt each they led 0-10 to 0-2. Feenagh/Kilmeedy were quick out of traps for the second half and 3 quick points which had them well in touch. However Eoin Kennedy split the uprights after 10mts.

Still Feenagh/Kilmeedy were coming forward in waves and it took some outstanding defending to deny them scores. However when the fat was in the fire Eoin Kennedy did as he did in the County Final win over Bally finished a well worked move to the net to leave daylight between the sides. However Feenagh/Kilmeedy showed their mettle and for the remaining 10mts or so it was back to the wall stuff for the North Kerrymen. The combination side added 3pts without reply and added a goal for good measure and now we were in for a grandstand finish.

But not to be outdone Asdee weathered that storm using their substitutes wisely through the half with each contributing in their own way; Paul O Carroll was one and he kicked 2pts along with Darren Russell to close out the contest. Overall a wonderful day for the Club and Management together with a terrific team performance who had massive support on the day.
