25th April 2013

By Donal O Carroll

Venue: Ballylongford

Asdee/Bally 1-9 Duagh 4-8. From the very start of this game which was played on a beautiful spring evening in O’Rahilly Park Ballylongford the combination side of Asdee/Ballylongford were up against it as the men from Duagh hit the front after only two minutes of play with a well taken goal, this was to set the tone for the remainder of the first half with Duagh scoring almost at will. Asdee/Ballylongford had a number of scoring chances before they finally got of the mark with a point from Liam Mulvihill in the 20th minute, however at this stage Duagh had already registered 1.06. In the last remaining minutes of the first half the combination side managed two more points, one coming from a free by Conor Carmody and the other a fine individual effort from the boot of Stephan Lynch who power up the field to slot over a beauty of a kick. Duagh hit the back of the net to register their second goal before the short whistle was blown. Asdee/Bally 0-3 Duagh 2-6.
On the resumption the boys from the Shannon side gave it their all and registered 4 unanswered points which left them trailing by 5pts, at this stage the local side were on the crest of a wave and it looked as if a come back was on the cards, however the wind was quickly knocked out of their sails when Duagh hit 2 goals within the space of 4 minutes. The Asdee/Ballylonford lads deserve great credit for their determination and spirit and were justly rewarded when Shay Doran pounced for a superb goal which lifted the local boys once again. However on the night Duagh deserved their victory with the two sides scoring 2 further points a piece before the final whistle.
On the night Denis Heaphy was outstanding in defence and even managed a wonderful point in the second half, up front Liam Mulvihill was to the fore and scored some great free kicks.
After 4 round Asdee/Ballylongford remain pointless with an away trip to Castlegregory on the cards for next Wednesday the 30th April
