COUNTY LEAGUE. Asdee 0-6 Cromane 1-15. A much more balanced and determined Cromane side who were short a number of regulars which included their County star, Donnacha Walsh but had former Kerry star Sean O Sullivan in sparkling form at midfield who was involved in many of his sides scores but his contribution of 3pts, (2f) were well worth the entrance fee alone. In fairness to Asdee they tried hard but were always living on scraps against promotion hopefuls Cromane who were to dominate in most sectors of the field.
Sean O Sullivan and Emmett Casey were on top at midfield while in a fast moving attack with all 6 forwards on form, Mikie Houlihan, Paul O Sullivan and Davin O Flaherty were much to the fore. Their defence ably led by Michael Teehan and J. M. Foley easily took care of the home attack in which only Mike Breen and Kieran Kelly were to make any headway. Darren Russell, Eoin O Carroll, Sean Keane and to a lesser extent John Doran were to make any impact for the home side. The opening quarter saw the visitors well on top and but for some poor shooting which kept the home side in the game and after 14mts led 0-3 to 0-2. Darren Flaherty and Mikie Houlihan,(2) for Cromane while Mike Breen and Brian Coughlan replied for Asdee.
It took the woodwork on 2 occasions to save Asdees blushes from what looked like certain goals during that second quarter but they did breach the Asdee rearguard when Paul O Sullivan finished in style to the net leaving the halftime score Cromane 1-6 Asdee 0-3. Eoin Kennedy and Mike Breen got a quick points on resumption for Asdee who were not to score again until seconds from the end with Eoin Kennedy again on target. Cromane just toyed with the opposition kicking some well worked scores and when the final whistle sounded there was no doubt but that the better team won on the day.
Team; Conor Coughlan, Eoin O Carroll, Martin Collins, David O Connor, Thomas Mulvihill, Sean Keane, Con Carmody, John Doran, Darren Russell, Michael Tydings, Kieran Kelly, Micheal Walsh, Brian Coughlan, 1pt, Eoin Kennedy, 2pts, Mike Breen, 3pts, (2f). Sub, Padraig Buckley for Brian Coughlan.
