COUNTY LEAGUE. Asdee 2-4 Renard 3-8. A battling performance on Sunday last by Asdee was not enough to take the league points on offer from a Killian Young inspired Renard side that included 5 players involved with South Kerry in the County Football final and now the South Kerry side will be involved in a play-off with Moyvane to decide who will be promoted to Division 4 as Division 5 champions. Certainly the final scoreline didn’t do justice to Asdee who despite giving away 2 sloppy games in the first half were always well in the game; however on saying all that Reenard deserved their victory and despite kicking some terrible wides were always that bit sharper overall. In Brian O Sullivan they had the tormenter in chief at centre forward and along with Mark Sugrue, Robert Wharton, Brian Sugrue, Eoin McCrohan and Maurice O Neill they had star players. However Eoin O Carroll, Kieran Kelly, Darragh Keane, Cyril Dineen, Eoin Tydings, Eoin Kennedy were impressive for Asdee. The game played in perfect underfoot conditions at Frank Sheehy Park, Listowel was just 4mts old and a goal and a point from Brian O Sullivan had Reenard ahead by the 4th minute playing against a tricky. 4mts later Paul O Carroll kicked Asdees opening score. Mark Sugrue, Robert Wharton for Reenard and John Doran for Asdee left the score after 20mts 1-3 to 2pts in favour of the South Kerry side, The North Kerry side were defending well but after a splendid save by James Kelly the ball rebounded to Mark Sugrue and he made no mistake finding the net with 6 minutes remaining in the half. Still Asdee came forward and a high delivery from Paul O Carroll found Padraig Ruddle and he fisted to the net leaving the half time score; Reenard 2-3 Asdee 1-2. Within 2 minutes on resumption Brian O Sullivan had the ball in the Asdee net and even at this early stage now aided by a stiffish wind it looked as if Reenard would pull away but Asdee stuck to their guns Eoin Tydings and Eoin Kennedy with points and a well taken goal from the boot of Mike Breen reduced the deficit to just 2pts by the 11th minute. A magnificent save at point blank range by Asdee custodion James Kelly deprived Robert Wharton when he tipped over for a point by the 3rd quarter. Reenard were now coming more into the game and it took some stern defending by Asdee to keep them at bay. The North Kerry boys failed to register a score for the remainder of the game as Reenard added points from substitute Nigel Curran, Darragh Fitzgerald and Eoin McCrohan, (2) to close out the game.
