COUNTY UNDER 16LEAGUE Asdee/Bally 4-21 Knock/Brosna 2-4
The second last round of the Div 7 U16 County League was played in Walsh Park Ballylongford on Wednesday last (17th). The two teams in contention were the combination sides of Asdee/Bally versus Knock/Brosna. Knock/Brosna were struggling for numbers as they lost three key players due to injuries they picked up playing with St. Kierans in the first round of the Minor County Championship. As a result the game was played as an 11 a side contest.
The home side had the easier start as Knock/Brosna played the first 10 minutes with only 10 men. Within this time frame Asdee/Bally netted the ball twice and had slotted over the 4 points also. Knock/Brosna’s 11th player arrived and for a short period the game was a much more level affair. The visitors looked dangerous when they were on the attack and they kicked over two well taken points and struck the net on the rebound after a fine save from goal keeper Cian Barrett. However the home side responded well and began to gradually pull away. The half time score had Asdee/Bally well in control and victory an almost a certainty.
The second half came and went with more torment for the visitors. Asdee/Bally continued to dominate possession and kept tagging on the scores despite losing a lot of possession and taking some foolish options.
