COUNTY LEAGUE DIVISION 5

Asdee  2-9  Renard  2-16

Played at Walsh Park, Asdee Renard made the long journey to North Kerry and kept their County League promotion aspirations very much alive with a 7pt victory in a lively encounter that saw 29 scores totalled. The South Kerry men seemed to be always in the driving seat and were never led throughout the contest despite a spirited performance from the home side. The visitors started in fine style and had 3pts on the scoreboard by the 7th minute with as many wides. Asdee opened their account in the 11th minute with a Mike Breen free with the same player adding 2 more and after 16 minutes only a point seperated the sides as the home side upped their game considerably.

Two goals in quick succession for either side coming from Renards David O Sullivan and Noel Long for the home side in a two minute spell between the 18th and 20th kept the tempo of the game on a high. However it was Renard who were to finish the half with a florish adding 4 unanswered points leaving the half time score; Renard 1-8 Asdee 1-3. The South Kerry men continued where they left off on the restart and a Liam O Sullivan goal after 5mts had them 2-11 to 1-3 ahead by the 8th minute and it looked to be game over.

However Asdee kept plugging away and when John Doran hit for a spectacular goal in the 21st minute it lifted the spirits of the home side but try as they did they could never come to terms of a very determined visiting side who used up their bench during the final 10 minutes to run out worthy winners.
