Asdee 3-10 Knocknagoshel 1-4, Asdee got their North Kerry League off to a winning start with an excellent win over Knocknagoshel, who were down a few starters.
The home side, without Darren Russell this year, played some brilliant football throughout, especially considering the wet and windy conditions.
Playing against the wind in the first half, Asdee opened the scoring with a Paul O’Carroll free, followed by a lovely Darragh Keane point. Knock replied with a point before Kieran Kelly popped up with a cracking point, with Darragh Keane adding another. Owen Tydings blasted an unstoppable penalty to the roof of the net, with a Darragh Keane free followed by 2 points from Knock.
Asdee defended very well, breaking in numbers, with great flowing moves seeing them establish a big lead, as Martin Collins coolly finished an excellent team move to the net. This left the half time score 2-5 to 0-3.
The second half started as the first finished with Asdee extending their lead through a brilliant Darragh Keane point. Brendan Keane was causing problems inside and got his first point from a lovely mark, before Cyril Dineen finished a great move to the net.
Knock added a free before Darragh Keane got his fourth point of the day from a free. Brendan Keane added his second point of the day before Knock got a goal from the penalty spot.
Brendan Keane rounded out the scoring with an excellent point from distance to leave the final score 3-10 to 1-4.
It was a very enjoyable game, in which every man can be proud of their performance. Special mentions to Martin Collins, Owen Tydings, Eoin Kennedy, Kieran Kelly and Jack Keane who controlled possession and marshalled the defence, while Darragh Keane, Brendan Keane, and Stephen Lynch were dangerous up front and displayed some fantastic high fielding.
