ASDEE G A A                CHAMPIONSHIP. Brosna  1-12      Asdee  0-3.  Asdees aspirations of reaching their first Bernard O Callaghan Memorial Senior Football Championship Semi Final were dashed  on Sunday last when Brosna served notice of their intention to claim their first North Kerry Senior Championship title with a comprehensive win over Asdee played in difficult weather conditions at FrankSheehy Park, Listowel. In fairness to Asdee they tried hard and probably should have registered a few more scores but a much more determined and classier Brosna side were always in command and as the game petered out the result was never in doubt long before the sound of Brendan Griffins final whistle. The game got underway with Brosna having a slight wind  advantage with a tricky crossfield wind and as play swung from end to end it was defences that were completely on top, with Aaron Cahill, Eamon Kiely and Shane Fitzmaurice excelling for Brosna while Eoin O Carroll, Martin Collins and Kieran Kelly were on top for Asdee and it took until the 14th minute before the scoreboard got moving when Mike Finnegan swung over a neat point; this was followed with further points from Adam Barry, 18th minute and a minute later Tom McGoldrick pointed. However even though both sides registered wides it was Asdee who seemed to be getting nearer the posts but were off target each time. Tom McGoldrick kicked two further points in the 22nd and 25th minute before Don McAuliffe got on the end of a high delivery by Mike Finnegan to punch to the net by the 26th minute. Now what ever chances Asdee had of making a game of it were gone out the window  as the St. Kierans men were dictating play and with in particular Adam Barry who covered every blade of grass in Sheehy Park and causing endless problems each time he got on the ball.Eventually Asdee got on the scoreboard when midfielder John Doran split the uprights with two minutes remaining in the half but Brosna had the final say as Mike Finnegan made it Brosna 1-6 Asdee 0-1 at half time. On resumption it was pretty much the same in terms of possession and even though Asdee held their own at midfield they tried hard but were never able to match a far more superior Brosna side who used up their bench at the three quarter stage and went on to play some very intelligent football and kicking some fine scores into the bargain; Asdee custodion James Kelly twarted Don McAuliffe from scoring his second goal of the game when he brought of a tremendous point blank save as we approached the final whistle; Eoin Tydings and Mike Breen,(f) pointed for Asdee while Mike Finnegan,  Don McAuliffe, Tom McGoldrick  got further points for Brosna.  Probably what was a huge factor between the teams was that the Brosna forwards always looked dangerous in possession while a much lighter Asdee attack lacked the physical strength of their opponents been disposed rather easily and were always struggling to find the target. In fairness Darragh Keane, Cyril Dineen and to a lesser extent Eoin Tydings tried hard but the opposing attack had all potential match winners on their side which really decided this contest. Brosna will now go on to contest a semi final meeting with Tarbert on Sunday December 13th with a venue to be decided on.
