LOOKIN BACK. With the G A A season over for 2015 we will take a short trip down memory lane during the playing season and even though we haven’t any silverware in our trophy cabinet it was a very successful year all round for the Club. Reaching the North Kerry League Division 2 final against Moyvane. Then we lost out at the Semi Final stage of the County Novice Championship to the eventual winners St. Senans while we were well in the shake up for promotion in the Credit Union County League coming up to the second last round. In the Championship we failed against the All Ireland Junior Champions Brosna at the Quarter final stage. I understand one might say that this may not be good enough; but for a small club like Asdee it was a learning experience if nothing else for a very young side who if given a little time who knows whats ahead. In fairness reaching the latter stages of all those competitions we took part in was magnificent and one must credit all the players who always made themselves available; some having to come from long distances. Then again the Management team of John Doran, Dan Dalton and Sean Doran had so much faith in the squad and always got the best out of them; really it was like just a happy family athmosphere. What about our wonderful supporters who travelled to all the games during the year to cheer the team on; this was very much appreciated by the club. Our latest Sponsor Jeanette and Jim Keane of “Black Rose Building Services L.T.D”. supplied the squad with Hoddies for the Championship and not forgetting Brandon Products who sponsored a set of Jersies a few years ago. They along with a host of local sponsors is very much appreciated. Next up will be the Club A G M which will take place in the Community Centre with a date to be confirmed. Again new faces would always be welcome into the club.
LOOKING BACK. 1990 will always be remembered as the year that the St. Marys, Asdee won their first senior trophy at senior level in North Kerry competitions capturing the Mart Cup. This competition was organised for loosers in the first round of the North Kerry Senior Championship and very often proved to be a very hard competition to win. Locally this year it was extra special as it brought together great rivals and fellow parishioners Asdee and Ballylongford. After taking care of Brosna which took extra time to decide in a marvellous contest, the whole of North Kerry were eagerly awaiting the clash of Asdee and Bally and they were not disappointed with a cracking contest. A record crowd for this competition played in perfect conditions at Stack Park, Ballybunion. This was a wonderful sporting occasion with football the real winner on the day and when Mick Flavin, Ballydonoghue (Former Secretary and P R O of the Board) blew for full time it was Asdee who came out on top on a score of Asdee 1-13 Ballylongford 2-6. That historic team lined out as follows; Tom Gorman, Tom Long, Tom Kennedy, Sean O Keeffe, Gerdie O Carroll, Mike O Connor, Eric O Neill, Sean Doran, Barry Healy, J P McElligott, Paddy Dee, Donie O Keeffe, capt, Kevin O Callaghan, John Kennedy, John Joe O Carroll. Subs, Micheal O Connor, Tom O Sullivan, Fergus O Connor, Tom Stack, Neil O Connor, Mike Moloney, Joe Dee, Kevin Healy.
