NORTH KERRY LEAGUE. Asdee 1-6 Ballyduff 2-3
Played at Ballyduff on Friday evening last where these two understrength sides served up a well contested encounter and after a hard fought game where defences were completely on top; it took a last grasp effort from David Goulding to give the home side a share of the spoils. Certainly the teams were very evenly matched on the evening and all through there was very little separating the sides both enjoyed their fair share of possession but in fairness squandermania was to set in in both camps but credit those backs who stuck to their task and was to make life in the scoring department difficult for their opponents.
Another aspect of the game was the fine goalkeeping by both Eoin Tydings for Asdee and Sean Brown for the home side and especially the latter who singlehandledy deprived the visitors with 3 terrific point blank saves. It was the home side who got off to the perfect start and early points from Sean Costello and David Goulding had their side ahead 2pts without reply by the 4th minute. However a minute later Eoin Kennedy split the posts for Asdee followed by a pointed free from Mike Breen and at the end of the first quarter it was all square; 2pts each.
It was nip and tuck for the remainder of the half with Asdee having slightly the better of proceedings; Matthew O Hanlon pointed before Kieran Kelly came up from his wing back position to kick the first of his 2 points and after a brilliant run from midfielder Darragh Keane cut through to give Sean Brown in the Ballyduff goals little chance with a piledriver to the roof of the net. Half time Asdee 1-5 Ballyduff 0-2. Certainly that half time scoreline didn’t do justice to the home side and it wasn’t long on resumption before they were to rectify this.
Eddie Joy took advantage of some sloppy play in the visitors goalmouth and he side-footed the ball to the net by the 7th minute. It was end to end play now and again it was rather difficult to convert scoring opportunities with a mixture of excellent defending and poor shooting. Ballyduff were now getting on top at midfield with Liam Doyle and Sean Costello edging out John Doran and Darragh Keane. David Goulding who was to prove a handful all evening grabbed his opportunity when he got inside his marker and he billowed the net from close range to level up the tie at 2-2 to 1-5.
As we approached the latter stages it looked as if the visitors might steal the game when Mike Breen lofted over a close in free to put his side ahead with their only score of the half. But you write off Ballyduff at your peril and with time almost up it was David Goulding who saved the day with a point from an acute angle. Referee Seamus Mulvihill, added to the enjoyment of the game with a competent performance.

UNDER 12s last Saturday evening there was an under 12 game between Asdee/Bally v Tarbert. Very disappointing turnout from the Asdee/Bally team with only 10 players showing up. In the first half the 10 players from Asdee/Bally did very well and were down just a few points in the first half.
However Tarbert took over the game and ultimately winning by a big margin. The score doesn’t reflect the grit and the determination of the 10 players who never gave up. The final score was Asdee/Bally 1 point and Tarbert 5-14. The Asdee/Bally team consisted of Niall O’Connor, Michael Hannon, Patrick Mulvihill, Liam Connolly, Alex Compos, Jack Hannon, Oran O’Neil, Bobby McCarron, and Sean O’Connor.
