NOVICE CHAMPIONSHIP.  Asdee 0-13 Cromane  1-13
Asdee bowed out of the Novice County Championship at the first hurdle when they were defeated at home by a Sean O Sullivan inspired Cromane side and the former Kerry star who contributed 9pts of his sides total was probably the difference between the sides in terms of the result. Asdee played with a stiffish breeze in the first half and were first of…f the mark when Eoin Tydings whos was to finish the game as top scorer kicked the first of his 10pts after 3mts. However a minute later it was Sean O Sullivan who levelled up matters after a good build up.
Asdee were now having the better of the exchanges but a total of 7 wides in this half was later to have a big bearing in the contest. It was the accuracy from frees from the boot of Eoin “Bomber” Tydings that saw the home side stretch their lead 7pts to 3 by the 25th minute. A late first half surge by the Mid Kerry men saw Sean O Sullivan, (2) and Mikey Houlihan cut the deficit and at the interval it was 7pts to 6pts in favour of the home side.
Within seconds of the restart Donnacha Walsh who was to play a big part in this half split the uprights to tie up the game. It was the aforementioned player that set up Brendan Foley who neatly planted the ball in the net in the 11th, minute after scores were exchanged by Tydings and O Sullivan. At this stage Cromane were in command of the situation and even though Asdee were battling away showing great determination they were struggling to find the target.
With 7mts left for play the visitors held a 1-13 to 0-9 advantage but a never say die Asdee side threw caution to the wind and 4 pointed frees from Eoin Tydings had the Cromane supporters waiting patiently for the Referees final whistle. Overall a well contested encounter with Sean O Sullivan for the visitors in great scoring form; while Mikey Houlihan, Donnacha Walsh, second half, Liam Walsh, Emmet Casey, Liam Tehan some of their best performers. For Asdee Sean Keane, Kieran Kelly and Eoin O Carroll worked hard in defence, John Doran, Eoin Tydings, Darren Russell and Eoin Kennedy impressed also.
