MUNSTER FINAL. The long wait continues for our clash with Charleville in the Munster Junior “B” final. Having already stated Asdee are ready and willing to play the game so it is most disappointing that our opposition it seems are holding up the competition. Surely the hosting club Knockaderry should just fix a date and get the competition finished.
MEMORABLE YEAR. Following on from the re-formation of the senior club in 1986 history was made when Asdee set up a Bord Na nOg for the first time in 1997. Donie O Keeffe became the first Chairman and a year later the club took part in most North Kerry competitions. Plenty success was to follow during the following years with silverware won at all under age levels at both North Kerry and County. Then when numbers were to get a little tight in the early 2000 we amalgamated with our fellow parishioners Ballylongford and again that winning streak was to continue; even to this day.. However 1992 was a special year for the club. The first game was played at the now Jack Walsh Memorial Park when our Under 12s took to the field against Duagh in a North Kerry league tie but most importantantly for the tremendous success of our under 14 team who became the first underage team from Asdee to win a North Kerry title by defeating Moyvane in a trilling League Final played in Clounmacon. Asdee 0-10 Moyvane 1-3. For the record the following were the history makers; John Long, Timmy Finucane, Sean “Red” Stack, Ger Lynch, Martin Stack, Sean “Black” Stack, Karl Kissane, Danny Finucane, Pat Joe Long, Jerry Long, 1pt, Maurice O Mahony, 4pts, Donal O Carroll, (capt), 2pts, Dan Kearney, Kieran O Hanlon, Matt O Hanlon, 3pts. Subs; Charles Dalton for Dan Kearney, David O Connor for Kieran O Hanlon, Martin McElligott, Tomas Walsh, Ritchard Dee, Ronan Galvin, Paudie O Connor, Declan Scully, Hugh O Donoghue, Martin Lynch, Kieran McElligott. Team mentors were; Jack Hennessy, Donie Finucane, John Paul Galvin and Oliver Kearney. Our under 16s were beaten in both league and championship semi finals, under 12s unlucky to lose the Tarbert tournament to Moyvane and also lost the semi final of the Beale tournament. At a special function organised to honour our under 14 team at the Community Centre invited guests were Ogie Moran who was trainer of the Kerry footballers at the time and Teddy Keane from the North Kerry Board.
