STARS IN THEIR EYES. The Asdee Community Centre was packed to capacity on Saturday night last which was the clubs Fundraiser along with the celebrating of 30th years of the club since it was reformed in 1986. Without doubt this will be an occasion to cherish when we look back on the event and even though there were so many exciting times in the Community Centre down through the years; this will be well up there with the best Sixteen acts from around North Kerry went head to head for the popular and judges. votes on the night as each act performed their version of a well known song or singer in an attempt to capture the audiences heart
Those who took to the stage after rigorous preperation were simply awesome with each showing their tremendous talents. Then after a marvellous nights entertainment our esteemed adjudicators of Deirdre Walsh of Radio Kerry fame; Helen O Carroll, Solicitor, Listowel/ Duagh and former Bogadier and Actor from Banemore; Mike Joe Thornton and who all agreed afterwards that it was probably one of the toughest events they had to adjudicate on; such was the talent that was on display. However after long deliberations and plenty noise from the rival camps it was the duet of Annamay Wall and Mark Hennessy, from Ballybunion singing “The Prayer”by Andrea Bocelli and Celine Dion who got the nod to enter the winners enclosure. Still more to be confirmed and the winner of the Audience Vote and “Star of the Night” was none other than Catherine Kennedy,The Village singing Christina Aguilers Beautiful and Shania Twains; Man I feel like a woman. Then we had Jessica Dee Tydings, Ballynoneen, singing “Hitt the Diff” and she received the award for the Popular vote. All prizes were presented by Chairman of Club; Padraig Vallelly.
Certainly the night couldn’t have gone better and this is due to the tremendous work by the organising committee led by Eoin Kennedy; Eoin who was the brainchild of the event and may be better known for his footballing qualities on the field of play but is equally as good at planning and organising when it comes to stage and if that wasn’t enough for the former Kerry Minor footballer he was Fear a Ti and was as comfortable introducing on stage as he is at number 11 on the senior team; keeping everything running smoothly on the night.
To each and everyone of our participants you were all winners and the club are indebted to each of you for competing and making it a night to remember. Not forgetting our many sponsors from the parish and beyond and our loyal supporters who not for the first time came up trumps in our Fundraising; the club really appreciates your generosity. A special word of thanks to Jimmy Quinn who supplied all the Sound equipment free of charge; along with Fintan, Martin and Ritchard, Then we had all the volunteers who gave endless hours preparing for the show; along with and during, afterwards; thank you all. Following the nights entertaintment and the crowning of our winners, the music and craic continued to flow.
MINOR COUNTY LEAGUE Asdee/Bally 4-12 Keel/Listry 5-10. This was a game that slipped through our fingers; having had plenty play and looking like winners but unfortunately the dismissal of one of our star players with under 10 minutes left for play was to give the Mid Kerry side the advantage and they scrope through in the end by the minimum of margins. Now as the table stands we will now be playing Keel/Listry again this time in a semi final and with the Mid Kerry men finishing in second place they will have home advantage in Keel on this Friday April 15th at 6 45pm with the winners to play Beale in the final.

Asdee/Bally under 12 football team made a long trip to Gneeveguilla on Sunday evening last in perfect weather conditions where the team played some outstanding football. The scorers for Asdee/Bally were: Oran O’Neil, 1pt, Michael Hannon, 2-1, Pauric Fogarty, 1-2, Oisin Healy,1pt, Sean O’Connor, 1gl, Liam Connoll, 5pts.
